Our Story

We create art in a life-enhancing fashion
The name NuevoSol — "The New Sun" — acknowledges the awakening of humanity. Our logo represents the light within all individuals as the soul of collective creation. This is our energy signature, an offering from the hands of our artisans to you.
NuevoSol was founded in 2018, when two women from California discovered a beautiful artisan workshop in the Andean mountains of Ecuador — a place where artisans work collectively, in harmony with nature. Excited by the possibilities, we set out to share that magic and spread the seeds of conscious creation. In collaboration with the artisans, as a privately owned small business, we bring you hand-painted original art on clothing and accessories.
Fashion can be a force for good. When passion is combined with a deep respect for nature, the making of a product becomes a life-enhancing cycle — from the growers to the makers to the wearers and back again. Fashion offers an opportunity for self-expression that feeds the soul, and the very nature of our being is nourished by conscious creativity.

Our Artisan Workshop
Our workspaces are light-filled, clean, and beautiful. We make in small batches, which allows our multi-talented team to work across a variety of projects. Our artisans hand-apply low-impact reactive dyes to fabrics made from natural fibers; the cloth is then rinsed in fresh spring water and dried in the sun. Harmful chemicals are never used in our processes. Organic gardens on the property grow fruits and vegetables for employee lunches.
Our People
Painting and batik production takes place in open-air pavilions, while our indoor teams work in spacious, beautiful surroundings. A nourishing lunch is served every day, including vegetables and fruit from our gardens. We value our people: we pay fair wages and overtime, and provide benefits comparable to those in the US — healthcare, vacation, and full retirement. Your purchases directly benefit our people.

The Hacienda
Ten acres of farmland in the Ecuadorian highlands, guided by an indigenous permaculture specialist and developed as a learning center and guest house. Spring-fed, volcanic soil, moderate climate — a living library of native plants that feeds our team year-round and will one day supply our natural dyes.
